At Jinja, water flows out of Lake Victoria (the largest tropical lake in the world) over what used to be Ripon Falls, officially marking the starting point of the Victoria Nile. While the White Nile begins here, it later joins the Blue Nile (which originates in Lake Tana, Ethiopia) in Khartoum, Sudan, to form the main River Nile.
